Print solutions still sit at the heart of many businesses, printing and copying documents that are vital to the smooth and successful running of the company. Therefore, it can have a serious detrimental effect on your productivity when things go wrong.
While many print issues are easily remedied, for others it is far better to call in the copier support engineer and let a professional handle it.
Top Faults to Avoid
Some of the most common issues we encounter include:
- Nothing’s happening! – You’ve hit print on your document and wandered over to the printer, but it’s not printing, in fact, nothing is happening at all! This is a common issues, but thankfully it is usually down to user error rather than a serious fault. Double check that the machine is plugged in and switched on, and that the necessary network cables are also plugged in. If you have multiple copiers in your office, check that you have sent your document to the right one in your print settings.
- Paper jam – Another common issue is the paper jam, when paper gets stuck either on its way into or out of the machine. This is often due to the wrong type of paper being used, or failing to properly separate pages.
- Crinkled paper – You may find that your document prints accurately, but that the paper is crinkled or creased. This is usually the result of rollers that are worn out and need to be replaced.
- Persistent marks or smudges – There are a number of faults that will result in documents failing to print properly, with lines, dots or smudges on the page. If you are scanning something, this could be due to dirt or debris on the scanning glass that needs to be cleaned. For printing, it could be issues with fusers or drum blades that need to be examined.
One tip we reiterate to many clients is simple; unless you’re 100% sure what the problem is, don’t try to solve it yourself. Opening up these devices without an understanding of their inner functioning can lead to further complications, making it more difficult and more expensive to repair. Instead, put in a call to your printer support team and leave it up to the experts to take care of it.
Making a note of what went wrong and any relevant error codes could help resolve the problem quicker as the engineer will be one step ahead!
