Why choose a Ricoh Digital MFD Copier Printer Fax Scan System
Environmentally Friendly
Ricoh has been caring for the environment since inception, with a dedicated environment office established in 1976. Since then they have introduced a number of initiatives to help preserve and protect our planet and minimise our impact on it. Such developments include the employment of zero waste techniques, advanced recycling programmes, customer tree planting scheme and the award for 'Carbon Neutral' status in 2004.
Ricoh are now helping partners and customers to become more eco-friendly and improve their own environmental credentials.
So now that the environment is becoming so important to our customers, how can we translate our environmental credentials into business benefits?

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS DESIGN for Digital MFD Copier Printer Fax Scan Machines
Office equipment is the fastest growing area of energy use in businesses so it makes sense to design it in ways that help save the environment and money.
Ricoh machines are designed to be user-friendly, have money saving features (fast duplexing, ultra low sleep mode and increased toner yield), be functional, efficient and high quality.
Ricoh Digital MFD Copier Printer Fax Scan Machines GREEN PRODUCT FEATURES
1. Fast Duplexing Printing and Copying
Business Benefits
- User-friendly - saves time and paper and in turn, money.
- Can be set as standard to make sure this is implemented company-wide.
- Can approach speeds of simplex.
Planet Perks
- Environmentally friendly - uses less of the world's paper resources.
- Less energy is used in the printing process, which means lower carbon footprint and lower electricity bills.
2. Ultra low sleep mode
- 80% of the power used during a machine's lifetime is when it is on stand by.
- Ricoh machines have an ultra low sleep mode, which saves energy and money. This is made practical by the quick start up feature.
This is achieved by:
- Adopting an innovative ultra-thin fusing roller, instead of conventional thick-wall roller that functions as heat storage. This means less energy is used when heating up for start up and start up is quicker.
- Developing low-temperature micro-particle toner that require less energy to be printed on paper.
- Optimised twin-heater control to enable "right amount of heat at the right time" .
Business Benefits
- A machine with QSU technology achieves more than four times the energy efficiency, reducing energy bills and saving money.
- Due to its quick recovery, users won't be waiting for their print jobs and sleep mode won't be disabled.
Planet Perks
Less energy used means fewer C02 emissions.
3. Digital MFD Copier Printer Fax Scan Toner efficiency
Ricoh has successfully developed technology that reuses fine waste toner generated in toner production lines and effectively reduces production costs by 50%. The Ecology Design Award winning toner has a high recycling rate due to a clever structure that enables easy recycling, cleaning, and reuse.
Business Benefits
- Organic (water based) toners save 30% of energy used compared to normal oil based toners. Saving energy reduces electricity bills and saves money.
- Our machines and toner bottles minimise waste by filtering unused toner back into the machine to be reused without loss of quality so toner bottles have to be replaced less frequently.
- New Ricoh polymerised toners are made of identical sized, smoother particles. This makes the filtering back and recycling of unused toner much easier and more efficient. This saves up to 25% of toner so toner bottles are replaced less frequently.
- On many of the latest products, the toner comes in an Ecobag, allowing almost all of the toner to be squeezed out of the packaging leaving little to waste
Planet Perks
- Using fewer toner bottles means less energy spent in production, less waste and fewer chemicals released into the environment.
- Organic toners have a lower impact on the environment, reducing the amount of hazardous substances used in the manufacturing process.
- Currently in the pilot phase, but already successful in Ricoh Australia, RUK are looking at different types of recycling for toner bottles for our customers. In partnership with Melbourne based company Close the Loop, the bottles previously recycled into road surface, waste plastic for reuse into mobile phones, microwaves, TVs etc at great expense, are now more effectively converted into a substance called e-wood, which has all the physical properties of wood, and can be used in garden furniture, pallets etc.
4. Remanufacturing and recycling Digital MFD Copier Printer Fax Scan Machines
Business Benefits
- Consciously designed to be environmentally friendly, efficient and functional. Extra attention to detail means Ricoh produces a high quality product.
- In the long term, using recycled products means lower production costs as it costs less to recycle than it does to produce from new.
Planet Perks
- Parts are designed to be remanufactured or recycled so less waste is sent to landfill meaning fewer harmful substances in the earth.
- All machines are recycled in an environmentally friendly way at Ricoh UK's unique Green Centre in Wellingborough, helping to minimise harmful emissions.
- Eliminates the need for incineration and so less C02 and other noxious chemicals are emitted into the atmosphere.
- Fewer raw materials are used and fewer harmful emissions are produced in the production process.
- Ricoh has invented Plastic Fantastic, plant based plastics, to replace petroleum-based resins used in the construction of copier parts. This makes them much easier to recycle and less harmful to the environment.
RECYCLING: Why recycle with Ricoh?
Ricoh have five main initiatives in practice:
- Toner cartridge recycling
- Toner bottle recycling
- OPC (Outer Packaging) recycling
- Cardboard recycling
- End of life machines
Ricoh makes recycling effortless and easy:
- A post back recycling service for all dealer and direct customers for used toner cartridges and toner bottles.
- Ricoh will pick up all Ricoh cardboard packaging for recycling (must be stacked and wrapped) from dealer locations, and save you a trip to the tip.
- Ricoh are currently running a pilot scheme to collect used toner bottles from customer sites and recycle them in the UK
Business Benefits
Recycling saves money.
- Waste collection and landfill charges are increasing each year, losing a company approximately 4.5% of its turnover. (Envirowise).
- Recycling sends less waste to landfill and reduces the amount of raw materials used and so saves businesses money (about 1 % of its turnover). In fact waste collection charges are increasing by about 5% each year.
Planet Perks
- Recycling uses less energy than producing new products from scratch.
- Less energy used = fewer C02 emissions into the environment
- Ricoh's purpose built Green Centre ensures all machines and parts are recycled in the most environmentally friendly way.
- Less waste sent to landfill - protects the earth and people from the harmful toxins omitted by decomposing rubbish.
REDUCING C02 EMISSIONS
Increasing C02 emissions are the biggest environmental threat facing our planet today and one of the main causes of global warming.
All Ricoh products are Energy star compliant - they have some of the lowest energy/resource consumption in the industry. This means less C02 is produced in providing the energy need to run Ricoh machines.
Business Benefits
- Using less energy on a daily basis lowers electricity bills and saves money.
- A 20% saving in energy consumption can have the same effect as a 5% increase in sales (Carbon Neutral Company)
- Cutting your overheads means production costs will decrease, making your products and services better value.
Planet Perks
- Harmful Carbon emissions are offset, protecting the environment from damaging pollutants.
- Reducing C02 emissions is the most significant factor effecting combat against climate change.
- Doing your bit in the office can help influence your employees to do the same
Ricoh TREE DEDICATION PROGRAMME
When signed up to the Ricoh Tree Dedication Programme, for every 100,000 pages output through a Ricoh machine, Ricoh will plant one tree on behalf of the customer in communities in four African countries.
Ricoh Direct customers are automatically signed up to the scheme, and their meter readings are uploaded every month automatically. Other customers are required to register their devices themselves or via their dealers and upload their readings to take part in the scheme. So far the programme has resulted in the planting of over 40,000 trees and has been running for 3 years.
